Jeff Bullers has compiled some great advice for ensuring that your content is high-quality and loved by Google. Jeff has culled and curated the points below from Google’s blog posts and they provide an invaluable guide as to how to ensure the content on your blog is top quality and held in esteem by human readers and search engines in equal measure:
Jeff suggests that when you post, you ask yourself:
• Do I trust the content of this article?
• Is this article written by an authoritative source or thought leader in the field?
• Does this post or webpage replicate content elsewhere on the web?
• Do you trust this website or blog enough that you would input credit card information if you wanted to buy something from it?
• Is the spelling correct?
• Does the content look to be written for a human user or does it look spammy and written for search engines?
• Is the article original with content that can’t be found elsewhere?
• Does the page provide better content that other results in the search engine reply page (SERP)?
• Is there obvious quality control of the article or website text?
• Does the article or content present a balanced view of the subject matter?
• Is the blog a respected authority in the subject area?
• Has the content been scraped together from sources all over the web (and is it probably created by some sort of automated process?)
• Is the article well edited or sloppy and rambling?
• If you were looking for health advice, would you trust the website?
• If you were to mention the brand by name to a friend would they recognize it as a trusted source?
• Is the content comprehensive?
• Is the article providing new, in-depth insights (rather than points that are largely obvious)?
• Would you want to bookmark the content or share it with friends?
• Is the content good enough that you wouldn’t be surprised to find it in a print magazine?
• Is the blog or website well put together and free from broken links etc.?
• Would users complain if they were to see pages from the site or blog?
• Are the articles brief and superficial with little specific detail that adds real value?
